Why Your Idea Board Isn’t Such a Good Idea

Idea boards seem to be all the rage in companies today. You’ve heard that it’s good to engage your employees, you feel like Millennials are cocky and think they have better ideas than their managers but just need an outlet to share them, you’re desperate to meet your financial KPIs and you heard about Kaizen at a conference last month… regardless of the cause, and though the concept is nothing new, idea boards are on the rise.

The most common way to implement an idea board is by hanging up a bulletin board in the breakroom with a catchy slogan like “Make (Company Name) Great Again.” A stack of notecards and push pins on a table nearby, and you’re good to go, right?


Those boards are where good ideas go to die, and your employees are going to figure that out pretty quickly.
