Focus on results

The best way to reach a desired result is to focus on that result, try to move toward it, and judge each attempt by how closely you approximate it. Focusing attention and effort on the results enable us to analyze and measure processes and later make improvement to achive better outcomes. Results refers to a measurable outcomes. To achive them we must have set of tactics which give rise to end results. Focusing on results is starting point for every organization which use the powerfull toolkits offered by Lean Six Sigma, based on DMAIC methodology, to achieve goals and make improvement of it's processes.

Let's look how focusing on results help each phase of DMAIC to be successful.

“D” (Define) phase means defining the goals of the improvement activity. Level goals are set according business results and can include strategic objectives at the top of the organization,  but also goals across all levels in organization. In other cases, poor performance on a particular CTQ ( Crtical to Quality) must be addressed, and achieving defect-free performance on that CTQ would be the  goal.  In all these  cases we must focus on results which we get.

“M” (Measure) is about documenting the current process, validating how it is measured, and assessing baseline performance.  Important tools in this phase often include trend charts, Pareto charts, process flowcharts, Gage R&R, and process capability measurement (sigma level, also referred to as process sigma).Focusing on results in this phase enable quantifing problems.

“A” ( Analyze) phase means analyze and determine the root causes of the metric or CTQ that the organization is focused on. Different methods use number of tools for collecting inputs and conducting objective experiments to identify and cofirm top causes. Focusing on results in analyze phase help us to define performance objectives, identify sources of process variation, determine root causes and finally identifying relationship between inputs and outputs.

“I”  Improve phase means improve the process by eliminating defects. Company must fully understand the top causes identified in the Analyze phase, with the intent of either controlling or eliminating those causes to achieve breakthrough performance. Focusing on the results in Improve phase use statistical methods like Regression Analyses, Hypothesis Testing, Design of Experiments and ANOVA ( Analyses of Variance) to redesign process or product and demonstrate a significantly improved sigma level to moving into the Control phase.

“C” Control phase is verifing phase which has aim to sustain the changes made in Improve phase. Focusing on results in this phase include statistical validation that the new process meets the objectives and benefits sought in earler phases. Additionally this phase include process settings, setup procedures which employees must follow in daily operations-these items are typically documented in a control plan.Statitical methods used in this phase include Project Planning,Brainstorming,Force –field diagram,FMEA,... Target is error-proof process with adding appropriate checks and balances to the quality system for the long run.

Finally, Focusing on Results means actualy aim higher, aim for results that exceed goals and  achiving wanted results will be sure,
